Chemicals. We've all got them inside us, unfortunately, and many of them enter our bodies through the foods we eat and the water we drink. In April, however, the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 was introduced in Congress. The act, if passed, would update the badly outdated 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act by requiring "chemical manufacturers to demonstrate the safety of industrial chemicals used in everyday household products." Sound familiar? The 2011 act, introduced by Senator Frank Lautenberg, is itself an updated version of Lautenberg's 2010 attempt to get a safe-chemicals act passed.
