Fake food

(article, Ashley Griffin Gartland)

Does April Fool's Day have its own food traditions? Sure: trompe l'oeil foods, or foods that look like other foods.

Gourmet magazine suggests making lemon pudding that looks like an egg. Family Fun magazine offers ideas for a cake that looks like a grilled cheese sandwich, faux French fries, and meat loaf made from rice cereal.

Another easy idea? Mashed-potato-and-gravy "sundaes." Serve them for an afternoon snack and watch jaws drop.
