 h1. Dear readers,

 When it comes to food and children, most people have the best intentions. Parents want to feed their kids well; school administrators do the best they can given the confines of budget and availability; food purveyors try to make foods that will make kids happy, not sick. We don't always see the layered effects of the decisions we make. And many of those effects -- both bad and good -- are years away.

 Several recent pieces on Culinate reflect the struggles we face feeding today's kids. Aliza Wong, our latest Dinner Guest blogger, tries to make sense of her local school's decision to drop snack time; Sheri Reed has to laugh about her all-or-nothing approach to feeding whole grains to her family; and I, too, tie on my apron and mount the soapbox.
