Joy of Cooking app

(article, Kim Carlson)

We are pleased to announce the Joy of Cooking app for iPad — the latest Culinate app, now available on Apple's App Store.

But as is the case with all of the Culinate apps, this one isn't just our baby; it is the result of a multi-year collaboration with the Joy of Cooking Trust and Scribner, the book's publisher.

[%image reference-image float=right width=400]Self-published in 1931 by the inimitable Irma Rombauer and updated in subsequent editions by her descendants — Marion Becker, Ethan Becker, and now, John Becker — Joy of Cooking is one of the preeminent cookbooks in the United States. We couldn't be more happy to have brought JOY to iOS. (An iPhone version of the app is forthcoming.)

With the complete contents of the 1,132-page book, color photos, shopping list capabilities, smart search, and many other nifty features, we believe that this all-inclusive app is a must-have kitchen tool for the 21st century. It's certainly the case in our kitchens!

For more about the JOY app, see our app page. And please head over to the Joy of Cooking website, manned by John Becker and Megan Scott, the good folks behind today's Joy of Cooking_ — and the "stars" of the video below. As the book's editors, John and Megan have spent years combing through the entire contents of JOY, and on the website they are also adding many of their own interesting recipes. With the change of our focus here at Culinate, we are happy to send our readers to the JOY kitchen for recipes, tips, and reflections on good eating.

Enjoy all!
