OK, so Halloween ain't till the end of the month. But that doesn't mean you can't plan ahead for the sugary day. The group blog Simple Mom recently posted an argument in favor of going fair trade for the holiday: buying and handing out ethically sourced chocolate treats, that is, instead of the mass-market stuff that's typically produced by enslaved children in Africa. Finding mini-treats that pass muster, though, can be tricky — not to mention pricey. Dagoba sells "tasting squares" in bulk. The Natural Candy Store also sells a variety of fair-trade-certified chocolate treats in small sizes. Meanwhile, Culinate contributor Sarah Gilbert likes the chocolate balls made by Sunspire and, for the chocolate-averse, the candy sold by Yummy Earth. Happy treating!
