Food & drink issues

(article, Culinate staff)

The annual New York Times Magazine food issue appeared in print yesterday. (The New Yorker, which also devotes an issue to food every fall, generally waits till November.)

Contributions include a meditation on food politics from Michael Pollan, a call to arms from Mark Bittman to save California's Central Valley, and a profile (reminiscent of Culinate's opinionated take) of Christopher Kimball, the bow-tied guy behind Cook's Illustrated.

And for serious foodies, there's reporting on the American wine industry, domestic buffalo-milk mozzarella, and the history of the whisk. Oh, and a little bit of gender politics for good measure: Rosie Schaap's article about the rise of women bartenders.
