Mary Ekman, a French professor responsible for the food blog Ceres and Bacchus, doesn't just like to play with her food. She likes to write with it. Recently, while sniffing out a recipe for the Belgian spiced cookies known as speculoos, Ekman came across several recipes for the Dutch cookie known as banket or Dutch letters, and decided to bake those instead. Ekman, who started her food blog just over a year ago to combine her passions for food, literature, and history, did all of the above while she mixed, rolled out, and baked these holiday cookies filled with almond paste. She shaped her first batch into the words "peace" and "peas." Whirled peas, anyone?
