Do diets work?

(article, Culinate staff)

Which kind of diet works better: one that is low in fat, carbs, or protein? Turns out all of them work equally well, so long as you stick to the plan. (Sticking to the plan, of course, is the hardest part.)

A new study shows what we all secretly knew but didn’t want to admit: It’s not about what but about how much you eat. “When it comes to weight loss, how much you eat matters more than the proportion of fat, carbohydrate, and protein in your foods,” writes Marion Nestle in the Atlantic.

The study also found that diets requiring extreme cutbacks in one type of food — carbohydrates, say — are harder to adhere to than ones that are more balanced. All the more reason not to give up on that New Year’s resolution just yet.
