The 17 Day Diet - What Is It And Does It Work?

Diets always seem to have these names that sell themselves, The South Beach Diet, The Cookie Diet, The Beverly Hills Diet, The Body For Life Diet and of course The 17 Day Diet. The reason for that is pretty obvious, people are attracted to sexy names and diets that sound easy. Something like The Nearly Impossible Diet would never sell books. The 17 Day Diet sounds easy right? Just diet for 17 days and lose weight, cool. Actually it’s not just a 17 day diet, it’s 4 cycles of 17 days. It’s really nothing ground breaking. The first 17 days is nothing more than a no carb, hi protein diet, and slowly adding in good cards as you move into the different cycles. In addition to diet; you have walk twice daily for 17 minutes each time.

Like any diet I truly believe you can only last if the food you eat is good. Like any healthy eating plan you have to get creative with the limited amount of foods you eat; other wise you get bored real fast and find yourself heading over to Burger King for a Whopper and fries. The 17 Diet allows for limited amounts of fruit, but only before 2PM, and low fat yogurt twice daily.

Overall I think it’s a good diet for someone that wants to lose 15 or 20 pounds, and it really promotes healthy eating. It leaves out a few things I would like to have, that I think is healthy like rice cakes and peanuts. But I’m happy to say that I have already dropped 9 pounds in just over the first cycle. In the past I have lost weight a lot faster on every other diet I ever tried, which started to discourage me a little. But right now I’m dropping a pound every day for the last 3 days.

With that said, I am doing more than the two 17 minute walks which I believe is contributing to my pound a day loss.

As with any diet, eating out is pretty hard, and I just refuse to ask for things that are not on the menu. I just envision everyone in the kitchen spitting on my food, for being so bold as to want something special. Luckily I enjoy salads, and my Foodspotting.com account has awarded me the salad king of Miami because that’s really all I order.
