The Oz diet

(article, Culinate staff)

Dr. Mehmet Oz — heart surgeon, health guru, television-show host — is the cover boy on this week's issue of Time magazine, outlining what he thinks people should eat. (Since the magazine put up a paywall earlier this summer, however, you'll have to wait three months to read the article online if you're not already a subscriber.) The same issue features an article by food-beat reporter John Cloud on the nutritional-supplements industry.

Highlights from the Oz manifesto? Well, nothing too shocking — eat fatty fish, dark leafy greens, and the like. But Oz, bucking the decades-old campaign against saturated fat, plumps for whole milk over the more popular low-fat or nonfat versions, declaring that the lower-fat beverages are basically just sugary drinks.
