Honey bees and pesticides

(article, Culinate staff)

It's been a few months since activists began calling for a U.S. ban on neonicotinoids, a relatively new class of pesticide that's toxic to honey bees and banned in much of Europe. The chemical is still legal here, although Britain may soon ban it. And, as Tom Philpott recently pointed out on Grist, the real worry is the threat of pesticide-treated seeds being planted across the country this spring and flowering with pesticide-laced pollen. Not good news.
