Sticky Chinese-Style Spareribs

  1. 1 rack spareribs cut up, 3 pounds or so (recipe says individual ribs, I used bigger chunks)
  2. 1 one inch piece of ginger, sliced thin
  3. 1 bunch scallions, cut to 2" lengths (I didn't read and chopped them, oh well.)
  4. 4 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed
  5. 2 star anise
  6. ¼ cup rock sugar or 2 Tbs granulated sugar (I used a few hunks of peen thong sugar)
  7. ½ cup soy sauce
  8. 1½ cups low sodium chicken broth (I used 2 cups because that's the size of the package.)
  9. 2 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
  10. 2 Tbsp. rice wine vinegar


  1. Place all ingredients in the slow cooker
  2. Cook on Low for 7-8 hours or until meat is very tender.
