Over at the Ethicurean, Bonnie Azab Powell is fascinated by a particular app she's got on her iPhone: the Don't Eat That app. As Powell reports, the app is '"a with info on whether the item is allergenic, carcinogenic, GMO-derived, or just plain unhealthy. Check out, for example, the app's take on dextrose:

bq. Dextrose is glucose or a simple sugar usually made from corn. This substance is most likely made from genetically modified corn. In the U.S. over 80 percent of the corn crop has been genetically modified. Only products labeled 100 percent organic contain no genetically modified substances.
