Over on Civil Eats, Naomi Starkman has posted on findings by Consumer Reports that show canned foods — including some green beans, soups, juice, and tuna — contain measurable levels of bisphenol A (BPA), a substance that's been linked to increased risk for all kinds of health woes, from breast cancer to heart disease. Further unsettling news: Even those of us who are canning our own food might not escape BPA entirely. According to a piece over on the Utne Reader, home canning lids also contain a BPA coating.
