It may still feel warm out, but fall is sliding in the screen door. The current issue of Saveur magazine has a feature by Gary Paul Nabhan about heirloom apples and his attempts to save them. Michael Pollan's classic book The Botany of Desire, featuring apples as one of its four plants, is being turned into a film that will be broadcast on public television this fall. And Slow Food USA, working with Nabhan's food-preservation nonprofit Renewing America's Food Traditions (RAFT), is giving away DVDs of the movie in its Heirloom Apple Scavenger Hunt. You've got through October 15 to [firstname.lastname@example.org email] them your heirloom-apple photos and recipes.
