Alice's Doughnuts

Ingredients

  1. 2 eggs
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 1 cup milk
  4. 5 Tbsp. melted shortening
  5. 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  6. 4 cups flour, sifted
  7. 4 tsp. baking powder
  8. ½ tsp. salt
  9. ½ cup butter -- melted
  10. Cinnamon-Sugar
  11. 1 cup sugar
  12. 1 tsp. cinnamon

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until foamy. Gradually add sugar, beating constantly.
  2. Stir in milk, shortening and vanilla.
  3. Sift together flour,baking powder and salt.
  4. Add to the wet ingredients, mixing well.
  5. Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes to one
  6. hour for easier handling.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Spray baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray.
  8. Roll out or pat the dough on a lightly floured board to a half inch thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter. Place the doughnuts and holes on
  9. the baking sheet, about one inch apart. Bake for 10 - 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Brush each doughnut and doughnut holes with melted butter and roll in Cinnamon Sugar to coat all sides.
  11. Makes about 36 doughnuts.
  12. Cinnamon Sugar:
  13. 1 cup of sugar
  14. 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  15. In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon, blending well.
