The Oregonian reported this week that a West Linn teenager, Mary Catherine Muñiz, spent 70 hours this summer writing a cookbook featuring common foods from the food bank — and for her efforts won not only kudos but also the Girl Scouts' highest honor, a Gold Award. Muñiz gathered more than two dozen recipes into a booklet called Delectable Dishes for Less, which will be distributed by the West Linn Food Pantry. Muñiz says she wrote the booklet for beginning cooks — and didn't skimp on nutrition either: bq."They had lots and lots of beans and lots and lots of tuna," Muñiz says. "They didn't have very much sugar and flour, so I tried to keep (recipes using) those things to a minimum."
